Creation and Installation of Glass Sculptures
There are many shapes in the world, some shapes are flat and some are three- dimensional. The sculptures that Dale Chihuly creates are beautiful 3-D works of art. Imagine Mr. Chihuly has asked the students in our class to design a sculpture to be placed at The Huntington Museum of Art, and you can choose where to place the glass sculpture. Please use the following link and create a small, medium, and large size 3-D sculptures. After you have designed your sculptures, practice installing the different sizes and types of sculptures using a variety environments. Upon completion of each assignment, choose your favorite design and write a letter explaining to Dale Chihuly why he should choose your glass piece in his museum project. Include an illustration of your final piece and directions for how you think it should be installed. Please use the link Design for practice with design and the link Installation for practice installing your glass sculpture.

Great use of glass vocabulary in the classroom. This lesson teaches new words and about glass at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great lesson. I love how it breaks down the concept of sculpture/3 dimensional form as well as integrating that concept into glass making. Dale Chihuly's work should prove to be very inspirational to the students in creating their own work.

Very creative lesson. Your students will learn so much from the vocabulary alone. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you all so much! I'm really excited to use these lessons in my classroom next year and to share with other teachers as well.
