The Huntington Museum of Art: Dale Chihuly

There are many beautiful glass pieces on display at The Huntington Museum of Art. One is a very large sculpture piece located in the conservatory of the museum. The glass sculpture, designed by artist Dale Chihuly, is comprised of 352 pieces and stands 10 feet by six feet tall. Please watch the video showcasing his piece at the museum and then learn more about him from a video interview. After watching both videos complete your graphic organizer See/Think /Wonder. Your next step will be to illustrate the glass sculpture on display at the Huntington Museum of Art. Dale Chihuly glass tree - Picture of Huntington Museum of Art, Huntington

  1. Love the videos! Compared to what we made at Blenko, I think his work is amazing. What's really neat is that this piece is local and the students will probably be able to see it on their trip to the museum this year! They could possibly do the illustrations onsite!

  3. I love Chihuly!!!!! Excellent use of videos. I found the interview with him quite fascinating! My students asked me last year, when we did a Chihuly project, why he wears an eye patch...now I can tell them the answer. I can't wait to go to the botanical gardens and see his work again!

  4. Great assignment, it will be nice to se some more Chihuly pieces on our trip and maybe add some more pictures to this post to spark your students imagination when drawing thier own scultpture for the museum. I think it is very interesting that he talks about the team work his art takes and how he prefers not being the head glass blower.
